Hi, my name is Jillian Paulmark and I have been a registered dietitian for a loooong time!! I graduated from the University of Manitoba and did my internship at Health Sciences Centre. I specialized early on in diabetes and have been a certified diabetes educator for the past 16 years. My areas of interest grew and I became involved in weight management and bariatric surgery. I obtained my Certificate in Training of Adult Weight Management Level 1 &2 from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and am a facilitator for Craving Change. I and am a member of Dietitians of Canada, The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, The Diabetes Educator Section of Canada and The Canadian Obesity Network. I have worked in both public and private settings and am extremely thrilled to be working with a dynamo like Susan!!!
My Nutrition Philosophy:
My philosophy for a long time has been: Eat, drink and be merry in moderation because we are all going to die and everything is going to kill us, so we might as well have fun in the process!! Perhaps I should explain this…I believe that not everyone needs the same thing as far as food and diet are concerned. I also don’t believe in extremism and that some of the guidelines put forth generalize for the entire population and don’t necessarily take into account a specific individual. I also like to say, we are all made up of the same stuff, but we are all different so what is good for one person may not be good for another based on our genetics, environment etc. I have learned a lot about this through my patients with diabetes and how certain foods or situations affected their blood sugars differently. It is inappropriate to think that there is one diet for all. We are also continually being inundated with nutrition information about how this or that will cause cancer or kill us. Once again, is that really true for everyone? Most likely not, so I am here to help you navigate through all of these headlines and guidelines and come up with something that is going to work for you and have fun in the process….how does that sound??? Good, I hope…so we’ll see you soon!!!!
On a more personal note:
On a personal note, I am a single mother of 2 beautiful children, Cassandra and Connor who are soon to be 16 and 14. Yes, the teenage years are upon me…….hope I make it through. My other two furry children are Diva a 9 yr old border collie/shepherd and Ammo a 2 ½ yr old husky/shepherd whose favourite past time is chewing things! My favourite food is nachos and I love to cook and bake. You know the saying the one with the most tools wins? Well that is me, but referring to kitchen gadgets and any kind of “maker” you can think of. I have the margarita maker, cotton candy machine, a chocolate fountain, a pasta maker, an ice cream maker….I could go on and on, but you get the picture! One thing you may not know about me is that I have a passion for jewelry, shoes and online shopping…..but I’m sure you could figure that out after spending only a few minutes with me!!
