and really the season to over indulgence starts around Nov. 15th with the office party’s and goes always into January with extended family gatherings.

  1. Never go to a holiday party hungry! We recommend eating a hearty meal or snack before going out to an event that will be loaded with tempting unhealthy treat food. I like to have a big bowl of lentil soup that is packed with protein and fibre to take any hunger cravings away!
  2. When you get to the party, and there is a buffet of food around, load your plate up with veggies first, then the starchy carbs and treat food.
  3. Choose treat foods that you love and are only available during holiday season. If they are available in January, pass.
  4. Watch those liquid calories. 1 cup of eggnog can run you close to a meals worth of calories!

There are also some healthy baking ingredient swaps that you can do to lighten up your baking!

  • 1 whole egg can be substituted for 2 egg whites
  • Heavy cream can be substituted with 2 cups milk and 2 tbsps. flour.
  • Cut the fat in a recipe by ½ using apple sauce!
  • Substitute plain yogurt for full fat sour cream!
