Plant-based eating?

A healthy vegan or plant-based diet has many health benefits including lower rates of obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer. It takes planning + preparation to adapt your meals to this way of eating. That is where our dietitians come into play!

Why we are different

We help our client plan their meals so they can meet their nutrient needs and avoid shortfalls. We help by taking a look at the big picture, and use a non-diet approach to empowering our clients to eat in a way that energizes them. If you are transitioning towards eating more plant-based food and meals, we will help you do it in a non-diet approach that meets you where they are at in your health journey.  For example, here is some advice our dietitian Angela Tucker gives her clients who are just starting out:

If you are looking to make changes, pick one thing to work on at a time, and make sure it is easy for yourself.

Ask yourself: “What is the simplest change I can make right now?”

It might be as simple as:

  • Trying out a soy milk instead of a cow milk
  • Filling half your plate with vegetables
  • Bringing a satisfying plant-based snack to work for the afternoon if you get peckish or find yourself hungry before dinner
  • Trying a plant-based alternative to meat in your favourite recipe
  • Finding ways to include more iron in your diet, such as adding pumpkin seeds and molasses to your oatmeal in the morning, or using cast iron cookware more often to add iron to the food you cook in it
  • Picking up some vitamin B12 and vitamin D supplements
